ARLIN MILLER (KWOW, KIEV)

High personality air talent ARLIN MILLER bailed out of KWOW (Pomona CA) after the format flip from country to oldies, moving over to KIEV (Glendale CA) where he again spun country, until 870 AM switched from "Young Country" to oldies in the mid-1970s.

His act was very high-profile "personality", lots of drop-in's, and top rate humor.

CHUCK WILDER (KWOW, KIEV)

After KWOW (Pomona CA) dropped it's country format in 1972, CHUCK WILDER moved over to KIEV (Glendale CA) where he spun country, and then finally to oldies in the mid-1970s.

PATTERNED After "CRAZY GUGGENHEIM"

In July 1963, our then 12-yr-old senior advisor drew this cartoon DJ character for a proposed newspaper comic strip on DJS and their radio station.

THIS cartoon character was patterned (broadly) after the CBS-TV Frank Fontaine character "Crazy Guggenheim" then-popular on the Jackie Gleason TV show.

KIEV 870 AM Transmitter, Eagle Rock CA (Part 2)

FROSTY HARRIS was a popular favorite from KIEV's oldies era of the early 1970s.

KIEV 870 AM Transmitter, Eagle Rock CA (Part 1)

This site (once KHOF-FM) overlooks the "2" freeway and is currently used by 870 AM under the "K-R-L-A" calls.

During the oldies era on KIEV in the early 1970s, FROSTY HARRIS was one of the familiar personalities.

Patterned After The BANKAMERICARD Man

Our "senior advisor" created characters for a proposed newspaper comic strip about DJs & their radio station back in 1963 at 12 years old.

One of the DJs he patterned after the "jaunty" orchestra conducter in the BANKAMERICARD television (and sometimes print) commercials.

Here are the two characters side by side.

"K-DOUBLE i-S" (1975-1976)

KIIS 1150 AM and KKDJ 102.7 merged (an "on the air marriage") in September 1975.

After they merged under the service mark "K-Double i-S", the new combined AM & FM had an abundance of many high personality names inherited from the two stations.
