In the late 1950s, both Proctor & Gamble and Lever Bros. competed w/ each other for their both new household cleaners. 
It was MR. CLEAN vs. HANDY ANDY. Mr. Clean WON, "Liquid Handy Andy" was phased out.
But they both had memorable TV characters, and there were also RADIO COMMERCIALS during mid-morning "housewife" time slots, for both.
