KBBQ 1500 AM Playlist, 11/67 (1 of 2)

After Dave Diamond signed off the Top 40 format of KBLA at Midnight in June 1967, LARRY SCOTT signed on the Country format of the new KBBQ. The 1500 AM station had a poor signal from Verdugo Peak in Glendale. Most of those red & white flagpole-style AM antenna towers are still standing today, and can be seen high atop the Verdugo Mountain range.

KRLA's JAY & MOBY DUCK

In the summer of 1969, KRLA's new morning man JAY STEVENS (aka STEVE JAY of 136/KGB) made frequent references to "Moby Duck", who turned out to be a character from Disney comic books of approximately 1967 thru 1970. While not exactly a sidekick (JAY played it straight...no humor or character voices), "Moby Duck" was definitely a pillar of JAY's AM-drive show.
